Mother Nature’s Greatest Gift

If you ask kids what their favorite family vacations have been, their answers might surprise you. It’s the memories made during adventures in the Lake County State Parks that has stuck with them. Snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, tubing and camping are just a few of their favorite activities they enjoy.

Lake County boasts nearly 50 state parks. In addition to camping, most parks offer a wide variety of additional activities–trails for bike riding, canoe rentals, and their free junior ranger program for the kids.

If camping in tents isn’t your thing, then consider visiting one of the parks that have cabins for rent inside the park such as Lake Louisa State Park.

Parks & Recreation

Lake Louisa State Park

Highest Rated Park in Lake County

A short drive from Orlando, this 4,500-acre state park is noted for its beautiful lakes, rolling hills and scenic landscapes.

Lake Louisa, the largest in the Clermont chain lakes, is designated as an Outstanding Florida Water Way. Lake Louisa, Hammond Lake and Dixie Lake, the park’s most accessible lakes, provide opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Lake Louisa is the only lake within the park that has a designated swimming area.

The park is home to 11 distinct natural plant communities and lies within the eastern most boundary of the Green Swamp (Area of Critical State Concern) and the northern most boundary of the Lake Wales Ridge. The presence of white-tail deer, bobcat, fox squirrel, raccoon, gopher tortoise, bald eagle, osprey and cypress fringed lakes makes nature study a great pastime.

If you enjoy camping, you have chosen the right place. From cabins to full facility camping to remote primitive and group camping, we are sure to have what you are looking for. We even have a primitive equestrian campground with paddocks. Be sure to check out our activities page for more detailed information.

At the Camper Canteen, you can rent a bicycle, canoe or kayak. You can also purchase refreshments, insect repellant, sunscreen, fishing worms, firewood and ice. Horseback riding tours are also available. Be sure to check out the Park’s Concession (P3 Lake Louisa) webpage for more details and updates at www.LakeLouisaStatePark.com.

The park is located on US Highway 27, seven miles south of State Road 50 in Clermont.

Lake Griffin State Park

Big Picture Worthy Scenery

If you’re looking to relax, take a hike or go for a paddle you’ve come to the right place. Lake Griffin State Park encompasses 620 acres and allows visitors to explore in several ways.

Anglers or birders may want to rent a canoe or a kayak to explore Lake Griffin’s marshes. If you’re not sure paddling alone is for you that’s ok, because they offer guided canoe and kayak tours. If you’d enjoy a less vigorous type of exploration they also offer guided pontoon boat tours.

The park boasts 2 hiking trails totaling about 2 miles. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to see several different habitats including Swamp and Sandhill. Animals commonly spotted in the park include raccoons, bobcats, coyotes and even bears! Call the ranger station at 352-360-6760 to inquire about the availability of guided hikes.

Of course, you can’t leave without seeing the state’s second largest Live Oak tree which is approximately 400 years old.

If you think it sounds like a lot to do you’d be right so why not take some time to really enjoy what the park and surrounding cities have to offer. We have 40 campsites each with water and electric. Some sites have sewer and all sites fill up quickly in the winter months. To check availability or make reservations go to www.reserveamerica.com or call 1-800-326-3521.
